Henley Town Council will have 179 solar panels courtesy of Ecofusion

The Henley Town Council will have a green heart, they recently announced an investment of  £68,013 in solar energy, we are talking here about 179 solar panels, black framed ones, to be installed until first of November, in order to qualify for the United Kingdom's government FIT (feed in tariff).

The council developed this solar panel project with Eco fusion, a well known contractor, and the project covered the installation of PV panels on the three council buildings as well as 16 solar panels installed on the roofs at the Over- 60s Club in Greys Road car park, 48 solar panels at the Henley outdoor sports centre's roof and 115 solar panels at Exclusively Ladies fitness centre roof ; as I told you before, the all round costs for this Green project were estimated by the good people from Eco fusion at approximately £68,103. But nothing is too much when we try to save our mother Earth, isn't it folks?

In an interview for the  Renewable Energy World, councillor Stefan Gawrysiak  stated that, I quote:

“We get 3.8% on the stock market so this return is three times that. With the quotation figure of £68,103 it would be even better — we would get a 14-15% return.

“We should be setting an example and I would hope that this would be the first of many.”

Along with energy independence, the project is estimated to generate around £8,000 of revenue a year from the sale of surplus energy to the UK's  National Power  Grid and will help saving our environment by preventing more than 43,000kg of carbon dioxide emissions in our atmosphere, hence no Climate Change in the future, isn't it?

There were some problems with the installation of the 40 solar panels at the Mill Meadows facility, because of strong opposition from councillors, i.e. Mr.  Dieter Hinke, chairman of the planning committee, he was quoted saying that :

“We are doing our very best to keep Henley special and Mill Meadows is a beautiful area enjoyed throughout the year.

“Why are we intending to put a space shuttle on top of the pavilion? It is not the most attractive building anyway and can be seen for miles around but I think it would look absolutely horrible and be a blot on the landscape.”

Councillor Lorraine Hillier also mentioned: “I would like to echo those concerns. We come down like a ton of bricks on individual householders when they try experimental projects and do things that are contrary to a conservation area.

“I think we should look at ourselves. Energy saving is one thing but not at the expense of the town.”

Anyway, after some debate, Members voted 13 to one for Ecofusion to install the panel at the three buildings so have a happy ending.
